Quintana Roo, Mexico

Made the 30 km trek from Tulum to Coba to visit the Mayan ruins via colectivo (local bus) for 70 pesos. At one time it had 50,000 residents around 600-900AD. A tropical thunderstorm made it much more dramatic. No local bus on the return trip (?) Hitchhiked for 2 hrs back to the hotel, soaked to the bone. An exciting adventure to begin my Mexico journey.

Welcome to Tulum, Quintana Roo. Mexico.

The Mayans were badass! Art, religion, architecture, astronomers. Ruled by Venus. Then the Spanish invaders fucked it al up. Destroyed the culture and brought disease. All for power, greed and the church.

My hotel comes with a complimentry sacrificial alter and the pool is filled with the Blood of my Enemies. No WiFi. 2 stars.
Everyday is a new adventure. My hotel is 7km outside of town. Nothing but jungle. Its a long walk to the hiway to flag down a collective. 15 min ride for 20 pesos($1) On the return trip we were stopped by a military roadblock. No inspection. I’m trying to see the dirt road for my stop just as the van was passing a cement truck doing about70 mph. I yell aqui, aqui at the driver as he wizzes 1km past my stop. Now I’m sitting poolside, feeding the mosquitos and having a cold beer. Cheers!
