Alexa ~ Do Mexican prisons serve organic Tacos?

The Village of Emillano Zapata, Chiapas, Mexico.

Venturing to the SW out of the beautiful but smelly city of Campeche to Palenque in the State of Chiapas. Not far from the Guatemala border. Coffee country, slightly mountainous, cattle and sheep graze in the pastures along the highway. Cooler and less humid than the coast. Short stop in Emillano Zapata to stretch my legs. A magnificent statue of Zapata on his horse welcomes me into town. A few kilometers later the bus enters a passport checkpoint, My first on this trip. Federales ask for my immigration papers and passport. My visa is good for only 24 days. “This is a big problem” sez the steely eyed fed with an automatic weapon. Should be good for 90 days I respond. “It sez right here, VENTE QATTRO! This is a big problem in Mexico!” He calls it in to HQ. I seriously thought they would haul me off the bus. He gives me the stink eye and exits the bus. The fine for overstaying your visa (180 days for Americans) is $30.

VIVA ZAPATA!
